Whose Fighting Junior Dos Santos? The Candidates By the Odds.

With Alistair Overeem's recent drug test coming back positive for elevated testosterone it's becoming less and less likely that the Demolition man will be fighting for the UFC heavyweight championship at UFC 146. So whose gonna step in? Well here are the Odds on who we're most likely to see face Junior Dos Santos for the mantel of baddest man on the planet.
Frank Mir (even)
Frank Mir is the most likely to step in to face dos Santos at UFC 146 he has twice held the UFC heavyweight title and is riding a three fight win streak punctuated by a stunning come from behind SUBMISSION of Minatauro Nogueira in his last fight. You couple that with the fact that the Las Vegas native is at ease with the main event press obligations and it all adds up to make Frank Mir our most likely candidate.
Cain Velasquez (5-1)
Cain Velasquez is the man that Junior dos Santos dethroned to become UFC heavyweight champion, making for a built in story line between the two. But the fact that they just fought at the inaugural  UFC on Fox show in November and that it was a quick one sided fight doesn't bode well for Velasquez's chances at an immediate rematch.
Dan Henderson (3-1)
Dan Henderson is one of the most decorated fighters in the history of our sport he has won titles in the UFC, Pride and most recently Strikeforce. He is riding a 4 fight win streak with victories over Feijao, Babalu and most recently Fedor & Shogun in two modern day classics. Classics, that have earned him a guaranteed title shot by Dana White at middleweight or light-heavyweight. But the chances of Hollywood Henderson parlaying that golden ticket into a heavyweight title shot? I'd say three to one. He's a decent draw and very popular fighter but his size may keep the UFC from matching him up with dos Santos at UFC146.
Fedor (7-1)
Fedor Emelianenko ruled the heavyweight division from his debut in may of 2000 to his first legitimate defeat in June of 2010. His 27 fight win streak will have him go down as one of the best fighters in the history of the sport. But back to back losses in Strikeforce followed by a couple of wins over lesser opposition, has seemed to have lit a fire under the stoic Russian as he has recently expressed interest in competing in the UFC. So maybe Overeem's loss is Fedor's gain? I doubt it. The chances of getting Fedor under contract would be tough enough, then you factor in the volatile relationship between Fedor's management and the UFC front office and I just don't see Dana putting the title at risk against the Last Emperor.

Mark Hunt (10 -1)
Mark Hunt has had an absolute ground swell of  support from the mixed martial arts online community, as the #RallyForMarkHunt blew up Dana's twitter in an attempt to get the Kiwi a shot at Junior. Granted he is on a three fight winning streak but previous to that, it had been less then good times for the Samoan Monster and only saw him make his way into the UFC via contractual obligation vis-à-vis the Zuffa acquisition of Pride. But after a less then steller debut, against a less then stellar fighter, the former K1 grand-Prix champ has cranked off three in a row including two highlight real TKO's over Chieck Kongo and Chris Tuchscherer. Unfortunately for Hunt despite all the love from the internet he still has a ways to go before he is considered a real draw, that along with a real aversion to the press, will probably keep him out of "the mix" for now.
Alistair Overeem (14-1)

"I am beyond pissed about this." - Dana White on Overeem's failed drug test.

"I am beyond pissed about this, He looked at me in the face and swore he would pass the drug test..... It's beyond comprehension, If you're a fighter who knows you're going to be tested and you do something to fail, you're an absolute moron, a brain-dead absolute f---ing dummy. It goes beyond a guy having any common sense whatsoever."

"How To Pick Up A Gurl - Fast" with Rampage Jackson

It's no secret that Rampage Jackson has been trying to get released from his Zuffa contract. Whether its saying that Joe Silva needs to be shot in the face or that the UFC told Rashad about his injuries ahead of their bout at UFC 114, or going on TV and out right asking for his release. Of all those things, this might be the one that gets him his wish. Through a youtube channel called Rampage released a video called "How To Pick Up A Gurl - Fast" starring non other then Rampage Jackson. In what can only be described as a bizarre attempt at humor Rampage first lists the items needed to kidnap a woman and it just gets better (or worse) from there. The video deals with some of the very things that got Forrest Griffen in hot water and Miguel Torres fired. Coincidence? You be the judge.

Alistair Overeem tests positive for elevated testosterone; UFC 146 main event in question.

According to the NSAC's Keith Kizer, Alistair Overeem has failed the surprise drug test the participants of UFC 146 took at last weeks pre-fight press conference. It looks as though Overeem's first or (A) sample came back with a 10-1 ratio which is quite a bit higher than the 6-1 limit allowed by commission rules. But there still is hope for the Demolition Man and in turn the UFC 146 Main event. As Keith Kizer made it clear that he still is waiting on Overeem's second urine sample aka the (B) sample to be returned and if it is indeed negative, he will still be able to participate in the main event against Junior dos Santos at UFC 146. But with it looking more and more like the Demolition man has indeed blown up the main event of UFC 146. Gilbert Melendez vs Josh Thomson III Signed for May and Why The Worlds #1 Lightweight Belongs In The UFC.

According to Mauro Renello, Gilbert Melendez will be defending his Strikeforce lightweight title against Josh Thomson on May 19th at Strikeforce: Barnett vs. Cormier, live from San Jose Ca. Arguably the #1 Lightweight in the world Gilbert Melendez has won six fights in a row over top light weights Tatsuya Kawajiri, Shinya Aoki, Jorge Masvidal, as well as the man he will face on May 19th Josh "the Punk" Thomson.

Thomson has won three of his last 4 and is the last man to beat Gilbert Melendez back at Strikeforce:Evolution in December of 2009. But the Punk's been plagued by injuries ever since, and coming off a lack luster win over KJ Noons at Strikeforce:Tate vs Rousey. Finds himself with a surprise chance to regain his title. I say surprise, because I don't think anyone was really clamoring for this rematch, as previous to his win over KJ Noons, Thomson was easily handled by Kawajiri at K1-Dynamite 2010. The same Kawajiri, that Melendez crushed at Strikeforce: Diaz vs Daley.

Since Zuffa bought Strikeforce in March of last year the only person who has seen the literal application of Dana White's "business as usual" approach is "El Nino" Gilbert Melendez. With Overeem, Shields, Henderson, and Diaz all gone to the UFC, it looked as though it was only a matter of time until we saw Melendez get to test himself against the best, in the deepest division in the sport. But here we are over a year later and watching Melendez fighting the same guy he's already fought twice in the last two years.

Thomson is one and one in his last two and is getting a title shot against the #1 lightweight in the world and that's not right. It's time we see Melendez in the UFC against Edgar, Henderson and Co. hopefully a decisive win over Thomson will do just that. As the pickings just get slimmer going forward for Strikeforce.

Bob Sapp vs Mariusz Pudzianowski is set for KSW 20.

"The worlds strongest man" Mariusz Pudzianowski is signed to lock horns with the "Beast" Bob Sapp at KSW 19, May 12th at the Atlas Arena, in Lodz, Poland. Though 2 and 8 in his last 10 "the Beast" was at one time one of the biggest attractions in the sport and holds two kickboxing wins over "Mr. Perfect" Ernesto Hoost. Though as of late he has settled in to the roll of side show as opposed to that of a competitive mixed martial artist. Mariusz Pudzianowski is a Polish national icon who is transferring over to MMA after a very successful career on the Strongman circuit. Pudz is 3-2-1 so far in his Mixed Martial Arts career and is 1-2-1 in his last 4 with a win over Butter Bean to go with a loss to Tim Sylvia, and a loss and no contest to "The Colossus" James Thompson.
