Ronda Rousey: The New Face Of Women's MMA?

Thiago Santos vs Eric Pringle is off for bellator 62.

Thiago Big Monster Silva weighed in at 277 and could not make the 265lbs limit for his heavyweight fight even after being allowed extra time by company president Bjorn Rebney. Scratching the heavyweight tournament final for the second time in as many weeks.
Now that's how you make $100,000. You don't even lift a finger. But something tells me Cole Konrad won't have the problems on the scales that Santos did.

Did Bellator Drop The Ball By Not Scheduling Aoki vs Alvarez for March?

Bellator has quietly become MMA's number two promotion known for their tournament format and exciting highlight reel moments it chugs along putting on good fights that go mostly unseen by the majority of fight fans save for those incredible moments like Toby Imada vs Jorge Masvidal, or Hector Lombard vs Jay Silva. This can be attributed in part to blase' match making, un-inspired promotional work and a terrible television time slot, but mostly it comes down to one thing. The competition.
In this case the UFC, the undisputed heavy weight champion of MMA promotion. The MMA juggernaut runs events on an almost bi-weekly basis, bringing a media circus along with it, that starts the week before and can last for weeks after. Making it very hard for Bellator to get the attention of the fan base that it so badly covets. So when the UFC decided to cancel a proposed March 24th event, that would have been UFC 145 in Montreal. It left an almost month long gap in the UFC's normally hectic schedule. One would think that March would become ground zero for promotional efforts with Bellator rolling out their best available matches to take advantage of this golden opportunity.
Matches like Eddie Alvarez vs Shinya Aoki arguably the promotions most marketable fight. Instead we got shown cards featuring Joe Warren, Pat Curran, Marlon Sandro, Maiquel Falcao, and Brian Rogers, all great fighters, but none of whom  can draw a dime and we have the ratings to prove it. All while leaving Aoki, Alvarez & Co. for Bellator's April 20th card to try and match up with one of the years most anticipated fights at UFC 145 on April 21st featuring Jon Bones Jones vs Rashad Evans who are set to put an end to their year long feud in Atlanta Ga. A fight that is sure to create a media vacume around Bellator's Aoki/Alvarez fight.
I think these kind of booking errors and a failure to book compelling matches to complement their tournaments are just two examples of where Bellator needs to improve big time. They've done a great job of growing their media partnerships and are doing a tremendous job signing young world class talent. Now they just need to put in place the right kind of matches at the best possible times to maximize exposure for their brand and the rest of their roster. Failing to seize on opportunities like the UFC's Spring Break has the exact opposite effect.
